Our Ministries

Aurora Lutheran Church is well known in the community for owning and operating the Aurora Diner at the Steele County Free Fair each August. The diner was constructed by volunteer labor in about two weeks just before the fair opened in 1965 and has been serving home-cooked meals to grateful fair-goers every year since then.

Another popular annual tradition at Aurora is the oyster/chili dinner which is held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving every fall.

Service Opportunities

There are a variety of opportunities for members to be involved in our community and during worship.  We encourage members to utilize their unique talents and gifts and take advantage of available opportunities, or help create new ones.

  • Reading and ushering

  • Special music:  If members sing or play an instrument, they are encouraged to utilize their talents by providing special music during our worship services.

  • Oyster/Chili Supper:  Every November, Aurora hosts the Oyster and Chili Supper.  This has been an annual event since 1963.  Funds raised are used for various needs including mission and budget obligations.  Every member will be given the opportunity to cook, serve the soups, wait tables, or welcome guests.

  • Aurora Diner (fair stand):  In 1965 the Aurora Diner was built on the Steele County Fairgrounds.  The entire building was built and the menu planned in less than two weeks.  This is an annual fair time event for the church.  Funds raised at the diner during fair week are used for mission work as well as the budget.  We need everyone to volunteer for this event and we call for volunteers from other churches and organizations as well.  Be sure to sign up for a shift when the schedule is posted!

  • Meals of Hope:  The mission of Meals of Hope is to provide a hot, quality meal once a week for anyone who is at a point in their life where food or fellowship is hard to come by.  Meals are served on Sundays each week at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.  Aurora members are scheduled to serve meals on the 5th Sunday of the month.
